Rendezvous Diving
Equipment Rental Boats & Crew
Daily morning and afternoon dive trips leaving
from the marina at Prospect Reef Resort and dive sites are chosen based on guest
requests and ocean conditions; rarely are we unable to dive.
There are numerous dive sites throughout the British Virgin Islands. Most famous
is the wreck of the RMS Rhone lying off Salt Island. This dive is best done as
a 2 tank dive in order to see the full ship in all her glory. The bow section
is a spectacular night dive for those unafraid of things that go bump in the night!
Other popular sites include the Indians off Norman Island, Rainbow Canyon and
Pelican Island, the wreck of the Beata off Cooper Island, Painted Walls and Deadchest.
Two tank
trips are about 4 hours long with a surface interval of 45 minutes to an hour.
One tank trips take about 2½ hours and are usually at shallower sites than our
two tank trips, this allows non-diving family members to accompany you and
snorkel from our dive boats. |

Boats & Crew
Each boat has at least two crew members, one acting as
an in-water guide, the other acting as topside safety
support. All our staff are fully certified and insured
Divemasters or Instructors.
A dive site briefing is given before every dive with
divers given the option of following the guide or diving
“buddy system”. We recommend the use of dive computers
to allow maximum bottom time. Each diver in a buddy team
must have their own computer of follow dive tables.
All boats are equipped with VHF radios, DAN oxygen kits,
first aid kits, safety bar with spare regulator,
descent/ascent line and dive platform.
For your convenience on each boat there are camera rinse
buckets, fresh water showers and heads. Drinking water,
soft drinks and snacks are provided onboard.
The British Virgin Islands and Tortola are known for
spectacular topside scenery, varied and unusual
underwater topography and an abundance of healthy
Homepage. Dive sites are located around the various
islands with boat rides around 20-40 minutes across the
Sir Francis Drake Channel.
While some dive sites are more advertised than others,
allow our staff to introduce you to some of the other
great dives. They know the area well and will show you
their favorite spots.
Water temperatures range from 76 degrees in winter to
about 84 degrees during the summer months. Currents
are
sometimes found in the waters around Tortola, however
surface conditions range from flat calm to 5 ft maximum
swells. Many dive sites are protected by the various
island and we are rarely unable to dive. Sites chosen
are based upon guest requests and weather conditions.
The Dive Tortola staff are happy to rinse and store your
dive equipment for you. The gear room is locked at the
close of business each day; however, equipment is left
at your own risk. Please make sure that your wetsuit
hanger has your name on it and make sure that your bag
is also named. The staff deliver and set up your
equipment on the appropriate boat for your dive trip.
Gratuities:
Gratuities are not included in your dive
package prices, so please feel free to either tip the individual staff who made your
stay enjoyable, or leave an envelope in the shop with the manager for money to
be divided
amongst the crews who have dived with you during your stay.
